Time to work in the garden
Now that I have a little free time, I am working in my garden again. My garden is a favorite past time that has been oft neglected as a graduate student. However, most of my time has been spent working with the vegetable garden getting it prepared and planted. I now have to water it [...]
Good grades and lots of rain does not equal a weeded garden
I completely avoided my garden during the Spring because I was so busy with going to school full time (as a doctoral student), advising part time, and being a mom as much as possible. The garden and house were way down on my list of priorities. However, once I quit my job and finished the [...]
Giant Hail Storm
This morning, I woke up to a very hard-pounding hail storm. The hail stones must have been quite big because they were VERY loud hitting the sides and roof of the house. Ben’s giant pumpkins and the rest of my garden received a lot of damage. Notice all the damaged areas on his beautiful 50 [...]
Say goodbye to a good car
We have lost our VW Jetta. Kayleigh got into a car accident on Sunday, and the insurance totaled it today. It was a good car with a lot of good use still in it. I am not happy about this situation. It is difficult to have teenage drivers in the family. This is a difficult [...]
Pretty Drought-Tolerant Tulips
These are pretty drought-tolerant tulips in my front yard. Notice that the leaves are also very pretty. I am so happy it is springtime and that my flowers are beginning to bloom. Now I just hope it stays warm like today and stops snowing like earlier in the week.
Daffodils after snow
It has snowed a lot this week. It has been cold and the snow has stuck to the ground. It snowed and snowed all day on Wednesday. The following is a photo I took while I was walking to my car after teaching my first class of the day. I was in a skirt and [...]
Snow on a Spring Day
Today has been a beautiful Spring day filled with snow storms. As is typical this time of year, the snow fell and melted soon thereafter. This is the type of snow storm that I like. Because if it has to snow, I prefer the moisture and warmish temperatures. I do not like the slippery, icy [...]
Jasmine in Bloom
This is a yellow jasmine vine in my backyard. It blooms in early Spring and late Fall. Because it is a vine, it tends to try to take over an area of my flower bed. I have to prune it back yearly.
Daffodils are in Bloom
The daffodils are in bloom, and that means it is Spring to me. I love these flowers, because they were about the only Spring flowers my mother grew when I was growing up.
Crocus in the Lawn
Ray and Ben planted crocus in the lawn a couple of years ago. They are now blooming in our front lawn. When Ray first saw the first blooms this season, he leapt for joy. He just loves having crocus in the lawn because it reminds him of his time in England.
