I have spent the last two days working on our taxes. Yuck! I really detest working on taxes, and that is a bit ironic because both of my parents are CPAs.

This year’s taxes were complex because of Ray’s job change, my job changes, and all the write offs I had to find for my education expenses and our employee expenses. It ended up being a mess, and the software I used did not help. I used Turbo Tax for the first time, and I will never use it again. It has problems with some complex issues. In other words, when dealing with deciding where to allocate types of deductions, I got a very cryptic screen that did not understand what I was doing. I had to look up the IRS code on the Web to find out what two vague sentences were talking about.

I did finally finish today, but I got so little homework done. I just wish I had more time to write. It seems that writing often takes a back seat because it takes so very long to do. Yet, writing is probably the most important thing I can do as a doctoral student. I want time.
