Ben needed bananas so he can do the Bobo skit in LDS seminary tomorrow. I stopped at the Smith’s grocery store in downtown Salt Lake City on my way home tonight to pick up some bananas and other food. I had a long day at the university, but I wanted to stop and pick up some food before going home for the night.
I forayed through the fruit area and pick up some fruit including bananas and raspberries. I then started through the bakery area and picked up some sandwich rolls when I heard a young mother speaking very sharply to someone. I could not see who. It turns out she was yelling at her 6 or 7 year old daughter who was behind us. She kept yelling at her daughter as we walked through half of the big store. When I stopped for cheese sticks, she stopped and screamed to her daughter while agreeing that her daughter could get candy. No matter what this mother said, it was in a really mean voice and extremely rude. All while the boyfriend was pawing this mother. It was disgusting all around.
I then finished shopping and stood in the checkout line. Soon an older woman actually walked up and got in line in front of me. While she was walking past me, I heard her call her 10 year old daughter a “retard.” Unbelievelable!
I could not believe the lack of respect these mothers have for their own daughters! How could a mother treat her own daughter with such distain and disrespect? There is absolutely no love in these mothers. Not really. How could you allow yourself to treat your own precious child so poorly if you did truly love your daughter?
It is so important that we treat our children with respect and love, especially these days when our children have other choices that are not necessarily good. This is also a time when we need to buoy up our children and give them what is very best. I just do not understand why some women think it is OK to mistreat their own children.
