I have been sick for weeks

I have been sick for weeks. It started out as an ear ache before Christmas, now it is sitting firm and destructive in my lungs. It turns out that it is probably the bacteria Moraxella catarrhalis. This is a really nasty little bug that my body cannot fully beat.

I am now on antibiotics for 10 days, and the meds should stay in my system for 14 days. I am so grateful for getting this prescription yesterday, because I was sicker than I have been in a long time.

Well today, I am coughing practically non-stop, even when I am using Nyquil. I am absolutely miserable and exhausted from all the coughing. The problem: if I lie down to sleep, the coughing get significantly worse. I am sure this is exacerbated by my chronic asthma.

It seems that this is my body’s way of getting rid of bacteria the antibiotics are killing. Because most of the bacteria is in my lungs, I am coughing and coughing. I just hope I am getting better because I cannot get back to school and work the way I am now. I have not attended a single class this week; however, I did teach both of my classes on Wednesday.

After Wednesday evening’s class, my illness absolutely exploded. It was a good thing Ray had set up a doctor’s appointment for me yesterday. I went and they gave me good meds (Zithromax) that are causing all kinds of upset in my body. I just knew killing this bug would be difficult and it would literally kick and scream before it would leave.

I am just grateful for such medicines that help our bodies their job: immune reactions to an invader. But based on this experience, I hope research finds a vaccine to counter this evil bacteria.
