Today is the 40th anniversary of the first men on the Moon. What an exciting time that was on July 20, 1969 and that is the first memory I have: I was 2 years old and standing in front of the TV while I marveled over the astronauts walking on the Moon.
This was an important moment for many in my generation because so many of us decided to become astronauts or astronomers or something having to do with space. I wanted to become an astronomer, and I studied lots of books about space in my middle school years. I was a big-time geek even back then.
I have since taken those lofty goals and focused them on my strengths and abilities. I want to finish my mega-advanced degree in education where I love to teach adults how to teach kids.
So on this 40th anniversary of the first men on the Moon, remember what we as men and women are capable of doing. Remember that if we work together we can accomplish great things and do tremendous good for others. We can influence our children to do good and to reach for the stars.
