My Family Works Well Together

When the kids were young, they fought and fought.  Now Kayleigh and Ben act like best friends with their personal jokes from working at Boy Scout camp together.  Liz is also beginning to become good friends with her siblings because she is growing up and realizing the importance of interacting with her brother and sister.

Christmas night, we were at my brother-in-law’s home for family dinner.  It was such fun chatting with my nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.  It was such fun and so relaxing.

When it was time to leave, we gathered the kids and climbed into the car.  Ray then proceeded to back up right into a snowbank and got very stuck!

I got out of the car to push and then the kids followed me without being asked.  All four of us proceeded to push the car.  It was certainly heavy!  We were having very little luck and Liz was pushing so hard that she fell right down.

Pushing Car

It then dawned on me to rock the car, and as I started rocking the car the kids started rocking it with me!  It was so cool.  I hadn’t said a thing to them since the car got stuck, but we were all in sync and working together.

Ray even understood what was going on without a word.  He was releasing the clutch whenever we rocked.

Once we started rocking the car, we were soon able to push it out of the snow drift.

I am so amazed at how well my family could “read each other’s mind.”  We are such good friends and we so love each other that we knew what we all needed to do in order to work together.  It was absolutely cool!

As a parent, we often wish for our family to work together and love each other.  I actually saw evidence of this on Christmas night.  That was truly a gift for me.
